Order Of Preachers

I was seriously contemplating joining the Third Order of the Order of Preachers, but have discovered that their are no Dominicans in Pittsburgh. We have just about every other order here; Carmelites, Passionists, Benedictines, Franciscans, Spiritans, Capuchin Friars...but no Dominicans. Where are all the Dominicans?

This would be perfect for you, Danny! Do you have to live in a location with other Third Orders, or near a First Order community? It seems like if you could travel to chapter meetings, etc, you would be able to join no matter where you lived.

I knew there were lay Benedictines (oblates) and Franciscans (also Third Orders), but I didn't know that was true for Dominicans. I hope this will open up for you.

This is great news Danny! I highly encourage you to pursue the call to the Third Order. I recently made temporary profession last October. For chapter locations in PA, please go to Dominican Third Order. You will be in my prayers and may Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary be your sure guide!

I have actually discovered from someone who is a third order Dominican that they have a chapter in Steubenville, so I am going to look into that one! Thanks for your advice and prayers guys!!

Carmel,
In short, the third order is for laity and ordained who have secular vocations. You can click the link on the post to read more about it!
