Why Did I Leave The Episcopal Church?
Because they endorse the show The Book of Daniel.
This show is one hundred percent NOT representative of Christianity. Unfortunately, it fits the Episcopal Church to a T!
It's not surprising that Susan Russell is one of the shows biggest supporters. For those who don't know Susan Russell, she is a priest in the Episcopal Church and is also the head of Integrity, a group within the Episcopal Church that is the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered lobby. Their name is ironic in that they have absolutely no integrity! They, along with the liberal faction of the Episcopal Church have succeeded in turning ECUSA into a Universalist/Uniterian sect, where no sin exists and their idea of Jesus is anything that gives you a warm happy feeling.
My biggest fear about this show is that people who watch it will think it is a realistic model of Christianity. Russell thinks that the show will probably draw more people to the church. In reality, it will draw more people to a skewed reality of Christianity. One where you do not need to be held accountable for your sins. One that is devoid of all morality. One where selfishness pervades and the Truth is nowhere in sight.
There is an open blog about the show over at Titusonenine. See what others are saying.

It's quite sad how far in the wrong direction non-Catholic Christian groups are going. The Church of England here is pretty much in a similar state.
Praise God for the graces He showered on you and your wife!
Amen, Antonia! I am so glad God has opened our eyes and brought us to the Catholic Church, the One True Holy Catholic and Apostolic Faith!
Relax...nobody but Tina Brown (who last year wrote a WAPO editorial wishing she were back in NYC where there were no "Christians") thinks BOD is a typical church, even one of the ECUSA...
The real problem is not that it blasphemes but that it is not funny...
If the church survived Monty Python and Southpark (not to mention Voltaire), I suspect it will survive this...
Boinky,
The show does a lot more damage than you think. Television as a mass media is very influential. When you have a show that depicts Christ being okay with sin and telling the priest that it's okay for his son to have sex outside of marriage (and with a 15 year old at that) because they are young and that is something that kids do, AND THEN have ECUSA accept that image of Christ and say, "Come here! We're just like that", then people will think that the portrayal of Christ in the show is an accurate one. In which case, you have the leaders of ECUSA leading people to believe in a Christ not depicted in the Bible, but a Christ that is fabricated by the liberals to affirm that their sins are okay, and even worse that they aren't sins at all. The actions of the leaders of ECUSA (along with endorsement of the show) are leading people astray from the true teachings of Christianity and toward a path of eternal damnation! You may be okay with that, but I am not! As a former member of ECUSA I have seen first hand the evils of the liberals in ECUSA, so no, I won't relax when it comes to blasphemy, heresy, or other sins against God.
Are you telling me that a show is allowed to blaspheme, just so long as it's funny? If so, then I have to strongly disagree with you. Blasphemy is unacceptable any way you look at it, funny or not!
The problem with the world today is that people are willing to accept attacks on Christianity...if it's funny. Well, attacks on Christianity are NEVER funny! That kind of attitude is why parents lie to their kids and tell them that Christmas is all about Santa Claus bringing them toys and never mentioning Christ. It breeds selfishness and a "me" society. Well, people need to wake up and see that it isn't all about them. It's about God! Everything you do in life is about God and affects God.
Christians need to stand up and defend the Faith instead of sitting idlely by and watch the rampant secularization of the world and the "dictatorship of relativism" (to quote Pope Benedict XVI) destroy all Christian values and morals!
There IS such a thing as Absolute Truth! And that Truth is Jesus Christ. The Jesus portrayed in the show is anything but the Truth.
I haven't seen the TV show, but am aware of what is going on in the Episcopal church. John Shelby Spong's congregation is about an hour from where I live.
